Tropicalesque Gardens

Name this flower please!

I think this is a tropical flower, so I thought I'd give this a try here.

A good friend is trying to figure out what this flower is that her grandmother planted in her garden right before she passed away. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Lycoris squamigera? aka Magic Lily or Surprize Lily?

That would make sense as the Lycoris squamigera seems to have originated in Japan and grandma was Japanese. As you can see, she kind of had the Japanese theme going on. The only thing that makes me question it is that all the pics of the Lycoris squamigera that I pull up have green stems, and this one has a brown stem.

My very first thought was some sort of crinum but I didn't see any foliage. Pretty sure it has to be some sort of lycoris - maybe it's a lost Japanese heirloom.
