coconut palm

I have planted a coconut in my back yard in a 2ft wide by 2ft deep hole of sand and a little fertalizer. How often should I water it? It is about 5 ft tall. Any tips?

I would water this reasonably well once a week, but I don't know where you are in the world???

You'll have a lot of trouble with that in Modesto, as even the lightest frost will nip the leaves and these palms really need year round warm soil temps that even the warmest parts of California can't support. Try to bring it into your garage or covered porch in winter and go for a palm that is more suited to the area.

The only surviving Coconut palm in SOUTHERN California is one in Newport Beach about 20 yards from the water. It has held on since 1984, but is an enigma.
