Yucca secreting SMELLY liquid!

One of my boyfriend's yucca's is secreting a stinky brown liquid from the 'trunk'. It also had what looked like a light brown lump on it, which turned powdery when removed. He repotted this plant about 2 days ago and had neither of these problems before then. Can anyone tell me what's going on? It's quite an unpleasant odour! Almost smells a bit like yeast when you first enter the room.

could be scale or rot - you should not be watering to much in the winter

Sounds like honeydew. This is what scale feeds on.
treat it with schultz 3 in 1 fungicide.
