Bird of Paradise buds

I planted from seed two bird of paradise plants several years ago and have never had a flower yet until now. I usually place them outsidein a sunny location and in Oct throw them in the basement for the winter. I now, in January, have buds on both of them. How long will it take for the blooms and should I bring them up stairs in the sunlight? Is this normal? I'm excited about the bloom but expected they'd bloom in thr summer.

How long did it take for a flower to appear? I have two I bought at the store a couple of years ago which have grown to about 6 feet tall but never produced a flower.

I planted them from seed about 7 years ago and this is the first flower I've had. In fact, I did decide to bring it into my 4 season room to enjoy the bloom. At first I just had it inside as a houseplant and 2 years ago I decided to transfer outside in the summer months and it really seemed to get stronger. I'm excited about my first bloom and I'm hoping I'll get more sooner than another 7 years!!!
