My daughter lives in Florida and I had given her my beautiful Angel Trumpet plant. I had planted it in her front yard and a neighbor came over and told her it was illegal so she moved the beautiful thingto her back yard where no can see. I am sure this is not true.

They are illegal to grow in many countys Pasco county in Florida has a law against growing them as does many others. You can contact your countys extention to make sure

In Louisiana they are illegal to grow in certain Parishes as well, but it is only certain cultivars that are illegal because of the amount of alkaloids in the leaves of some kinds are supposedly higher than others.
Of course the walmarts and other stores there can put philodendrons and poinsettias on low shelves where kids can reach them being as poisonous as brugs and all...

The only thing I've been able to find regarding the illegality of these plants is something in N.O. stating that it's against the law to produce any compound containing brugmansia alkaloids for human consumption. Not the actual growing of the plant. SJN you are so right.
