Any cyclamen people out there? I was given one as a gift and now I hate to part with it. It seems to be weathering the indoor zone 5 conditions o.k. I think it is a tropical so will take it outside when it warms up here. The flowers are medium light pink.

RE: cyclamen

It's not tropical but the type you have is likely a form of Cyclamen persicum which won't endure cold winters.

It will go dormant at some point and should be allowed to remain dry. I've known a gardener to have kept one for 35 years. He simply put the pot outdoors on its side for the summer when it was dormant.

By the way, there are hardy Cyclamen - C. coum, purpurascens, hederifolium, alpinum, cilicium, etc. Depending on the growing zone, these can live in well drained shaded areas of the garden.

Here is a link that might be useful: care of cyclamen persicum
