Jambu is quite a common tree here in Brazil, although I have not heard of your particular variety. Our local soil is sandstone, not very rich, neutral to slightly acid. It is not particularly fast-growing but can reach about 15m (45 feet) in height and also spreads quite a bit so needs to be sited carefully when planting. The fruit is sweetish, but more popular with monkeys than humans!

As a general rule tropical plants need acidic soil. I grew one in a pot for a couple of years on my patio until an unusually cold winter killed it. It was an air layering and was just starting to take off when it died.
