Hi all, I have been trying to figure out these trees for a while now.. about five of them growing all together in a street planting in here in California.

They are definitely Malvaceae, about 12-15 ft tall, trunks thin to medium, pale bark, dense foliage, leaves orbicular (maybe a little aristate at the tip), beautiful fleshy flowers about 2" in diameter open yellow-- turning to red at the end of the day.

My gut tells me they are Thespesia sp., but they just can't be T. populnea .. and any Thespesia in these parts is rare at best. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
