What is the best way to prune/ manage this? I had no idea it would become such a monster. Can it be cut hard back?

Hi
Would assume you're talking about the plant what I know as flowering maple?? (Abutilon ?? cultivars) I find they must be pruned regularly as they ted to get very leggy.
They seem to take it quite well and you'll have a more compact plant gary
