Avocado from seed

Okay, I know this question is answered here somewhere, but I'm getting a headache trying to find it. I have an avocado plant I started from seed a few months ago - its from the larger type. It's about 16"+ tall, a few little leaves on top and some tiny ones here and there along the stem - kinda pathetic looking i think...Should I pinch it to encourage a more "bushy" plant?

Johnny, yes pinch it back..Pick a spot on the main branch where you'd like the branching to begin..if you want tree shaped, pinch the top.
Is the pit in soil or water? I've tried rooting in soil, but they never grow, so mine sit in water, then after rooting are potted in soil..The squirrels always end up eating my avacados, so have to find a different location this spring..lol...Toni
