What about any of the Bamboo Palm or Reed Palm?

I love bamboo palms, but the area we need to plant in is direct sun. Do you have any suggestions for full sun?

maybe dypsis lutescens (butterfly palm) or raphis (lady palm). The dypsis is commonly available at home depot in 4-inch pots for about $1 and change.

If you don't want palms, crotons or ti plants would look nice and they grow upward. Draceana Fragans could make a nice hedge as well and is commonly available as a houseplant.

I must warm you that plumbago, although nice, can get on your nerves. After each flower fades, the seed capsule emerges and it is covered in a sticky substance. They will stick to your skin, your clothes, your hair, your dog, kids, anywhere, and are hard to get rid of.
