 o
Bird of Paradise question

Posted by msbatt 7 (My Page) on

I have one that's been in a large planter for about 3 years now, and I'm wondering what would happen if I put it in the ground for the summer. I have a bed devoted to things that that must be lifted and overwintered indoors, but I wonder if this would be too much root disturbance for a Strelitzia reginae.

Any advice?

Would you pot it and sink the pot into the ground? (The pot-in-pot method?)

No, I meant to put it directly in the ground.

Just in case anyone comes along with this same question, some research has convinced me not to do this. It seems this plant flowers better when root-bound.
