When to start a castor bean plant ?

Posted by jroot 5A Ont. Canada (near (My Page) on

A kind fellow gardener has given me some seeds for Ricinus communis Zansibariensis. I also have some labelled Rincinus communis Zanzi palm.

I live in zone 5 southern Ontario with a last frost date of May 24 - June 1st.

My question is, when should I start the seeds? I don't want them to get lanky, and sunny windows is at a premium here, with all my brugmansia plants.

I direct sow them as soon as the soil warms up, usually around mid May here. They grow quite fast.
