Tropical Plants

Avocado issues, any help would be nice.

I have recently planted a Avocado tree that I received as a christmas gift, and I've noticed as of late its not doing well. The root growth seemed to have stopped. I hate for it to have root rot, and if it does is there any way to fix it before it is too late? I also live near the shore line of the Tampa bay area if hat information helps.

is it in a pot or in the ground? any freezing temps or frost during the winter?

how much water does it get and how's the soil?
