I'm glad for the fans of this plant, although it's not something I understand - houseplant forum seems like a perfectly good place to discuss these - prickly, slow-growing plants that are unattractive, IMHO. About as exciting as cactus.

Hello Ian, yes I agree that the climate is certainly not ideal for growing Adeniums in the UK, but that does not mean we cannot grow them! I can also grow palms, daturas, brugmansias and many other 'tropicalesque' plants as they do not have to be grown outdoors which would obviously not be a good idea here! I have a greenhouse instead. I have 11 plants (Adeniums)that I have grown from seed, 10 of which are strong and healthy and as good as those grown by my on-line friends from warmer climates. Admittedly, I have yet to get one to hold it's buds and give me open flowers, but I will get there, and soon, and I will go as far as to say I will post pictures to prove it :)

The fact that over 50 Adenium growers supported my request to have our own forum, Gweb obviously thought this was a viable idea and granted it. The final decision was theirs after all. More people have joined the forum since it's launch so it speaks for itself! As you are obviously not familiar with Adeniums or their culture, which can be totally different from regular 'houseplants', can I inform you that they are most definitely NOT prickly, they are NOT slow growing given the right conditions especially in their early years, and they are also NOT unnatractive. IMHO of course. You only have to check out the pictures we have posted or look at the header picture which is of a plant grown by one of our posters.
As you say, each to their own. I hope you continue to enjoy your plants and the houseplant forum, I'm off to somewhere more interesting. Enjoy.
