Problems with Pandan

I live in Malaysia, where Pandan supposedly grow like weeds. Despite so, mine is slowly dying for some strange reason.
The plant itself had mealies, so the first thing I did was to wash it clean. The older leaves are covered with white specks(not sticky or waxy), like diluted watercolour paint stained into the leaves. I've cut them off, leaving only the nice looking ones.
Now, the ENTIRE plant looks like that and they're turning yellow! I can't tell if it is a fungus problem or something else. Thinking it is mildew I used cinnamon powder.
However the plant didn't like cinnamon and I'm left with some burns. (!!!)
Should I give up on this one and get a stronger plant?
