This is a canarina plant that I started from seed a couple years back. It finally bloomed for the first time under the grow lights over the winter. Only one flower so far, but it was gorgeous. This plant does go into dormancy during the summer, which dismayed me the first time it happened, because I thought it was dying!

That's beautiful Audrey. Congrats on getting it to bloom. I've only seen it growing in a conservatory.

I'm proud to tell you Audrey that when I sent you those seeds I wasnt sure if they were going to germinate in you area but congratulations !! it is very, very beautifull and that shows that endemic plants from the Canary Islands can also grow elsewhere

Yowza Audrey. I have seedlings right now! When I tried them before they always seem t have disappeared from the pot. Someone told me that thay can go dormant as seedlings, but when I check the pot, can't find the rhizomes. Your experience with young babies?

I'm afraid I can't remember how young my seedlings were when they first went dormant. I recall that I did have more than one originally, but don't recall what happened to the other or others. Perhaps I was able to see enough of a tuber in one pot to have hopes that the plant would come back. Or, more likely, it was probably sitting with my other pots outdoors--and I just never got around to throwing it out before it started to sprout again. My laziness does come in handy at times!
