I keep Dichorisandra thyrsiflora and Dichorisandra pendula in AM sun and filtered afternoon light. Both are easy to grow but I think the Dichorisandra thyrsiflora is a prettier plant. The Dichorisandra pendula blooms at a smaller size, at least for me it does. They should do very well for you being in FL. Being in zone 7 I have to protect them over the winter and usually cut them back and keep them dormant in a cool greenhouse. There's a huge Dichorisandra thyrsiflora at a local conservatory and it's just beautiful.

Thanks. The thyrsiflora ws what I had in mind. I'm kind of a newbie in terms of learning to garden well, so if anyone else has thoughts, I'd be pleased to hear them.

It's an easy plant to grow. Just keep it out of bright sunlight. Keep the soil moist and you certainly have the humidity it needs. I use well draining soil with lots of organic matter and top dress it with compost. I feed it about every 4-6 weeks during my growing season. I've had it die back when it dried out for too long in the summer but you can just cut off the damaged stems and new ones will come up.

I live in Melbourne (Australia), it's winter here and temperature can drop to -2C. I planted my blue ginger in the garden without any protection or shade. there was just frost yesterday, but I haven't seen any sign of frost burn yet. winter has been wet here, there's been a lot of rain. So, I put a lot of mulch to protect the base.
In the summer, I water them plenty every once a week, they seem to like it and grow very fast.
I'm not sure what kind of weather you've got in Florida, but I assume it would be much better than here. the winter here has been wet, it rains every week.
