They like water but I don't think they like it that much. I wouldn't do it.

Yes it will work with limitatios. First you often read that the plant will filter the water and the Betta will eat the roots. It will filter the water but not enough and Bettas are carnivores they need FOOD lol.
Make your container at least two gallons. and be sure the Betta can reach the surface and has swim room. Keep it warm with adequet light and be prepared to change the water completely from time to time.
Do some research on the needs of the Betta.
