Problem with newly planted pygmy palms!

I know, I've seen a posting similar to this but I believe my circumstance may be a tad bit different.
I purchased these two pygmy palms about a month & a half ago. Brought home but waited approx two weeks(still beautifully growing in pot) before replanting in ground. Now a month later this is what is happening:

FYI: Used a fertilizer/native soil mix as specified by nursery when planting.
Here's my different circumstance. I did not use your typical mulch or pine straw. As you see in the pics, I used sandbox sand. I'm from Florida and know that palms grow just fine in sand but maybe there may be something to it, I dunno.
This is Georgia and the palms in question have a zone rating for here. I did make sure of that.
Also, if you notice in the last pic, the vine type plant in between the two palms is having the same effect. Leaves are starting to brown on edges.
Any advice, yes?
