Jaboticaba question

Hi! I was told by an arborist this week that I had planted a jaboticaba too deep in my yard. He suggested that I replant it with the trunk flare at the proper level. Well, I did that a few days ago. I have been watering it every day when we haven't had any rain. It is looking worse as each day passes. I think it is going to die. I don't mind if it does, but I would like to learn something from this experience. Anyone with any suggestions?
(I also did the same with a dahoon holly, but it is doing well.....sending out new leaves, etc. So I think it will survive.)
Thanks for your help.
