Bird of Paradise

I have a BOP and over the past years, it successfully bloomed each and every fall. I guess it got enough sunshine through the summer months that it would put on flowers that would open around Thanksgiving (here in Chicago).

Now, it hasn't flowered at all for the past 2 years and I'm not sure what might be happening. It has split and divided so the pot is pretty full, but I had always heard BOP's liked to be root-bound. Not true perhaps?

Any suggestions on how I can get this gem to bloom once again?
