I have a Duranta (sapphire cascade) that is six feet tall and this is it's third year. I've started many cuttings from it and it grows like crazy, blooms like crazy and I think it's probably the most exciting plant I have ever worked with. I'm in Zone 8 and I was told when I bought it that Durantas were tropical plants and would have to be brought indoors in cold weather so the big one I have is in a large lightweight pot and it gets wheeled in and out of the garage once each year, the smaller ones I just bring in and set on a table. I wouldn't bring it into the house because I don't think it would take kindly to central heat but that's just a guess. I've found that mine are quite happy in the garage but the weather here doesn't usually go below 25 on the coldest night and if I know it's going to be that low I put a small heater in there and run it during the night. If you bring it in (since you are in NY) rinse the entire plant occassionally, they love water. You'll love this plant!
