I've never heard of it! I have a few palms I overwinter in the house, including 2 15' queen palms. I'll look it up though.

Traveler palms (Ravenala) are related to Strelitzia (Birds of Paradise). In particular, they look quite similar to the Giant Bird (S. nicolae)--a common houseplant. The difference is that the Traveler's palm has a much higher light requirement. The plant will decline as a houseplant unless you can give it the sunlight it requires. So, yes you can grow it in the house but it is more demanding than its more commonly available cousins. Of course, it eventually grows to be a giant if you are successful, but that's true with respect to any number of commonly grown tropical houseplants. P.S. I currently do not have one but have grown them in the past.
