Hi all.

I put one Jacaranda in the ground last year. I tented it & kept the 7 footer alive until a surprise freeze on 3/28/13 killed all the leaves.

I chopped the trunk 5 inches from the ground & a new sprout has grown to over 8 foot, so far.

RE: Jacaranda

It's not a tropical tree, it's warm temperate. So it can take quite a bit of cold, especially when it's older. Your freeze must have been severe. But while it's roots were insulated by the soil it still had the potential to rapidly produce a large sprout. Hopefully you'll be spared the freezes and get an additional good bit of height on it the following season. Looks great when avenues of them are flowering.
