GARDENING GUIDESGreat Design Plant: Liatris Aspera
Tall blazing star’s unique flower spikes bring butterflies and bees to eastern U.S. gardens in early autumn
Full StoryI grew some black tacca plants from seed. Eventually, after a few years, they grew to be "gallon pot size". They had been growing really well, until this past winter indoors. In spite of misting twice a day, and applying a granular systemic insecticide, to ward off spider mites (dry indoor air) the tops yellowed, and died off. I thought the plants went dormant, as I've heard they often do. However, they didn't go dormant in their first year. The plants have been completely dormant, since spring. I'm beginning to think they are dead, as only a tiny bit of growth is growing from the root of one plant. I had five, originally. What gives?
