Just purchased a jasmine sambac at Home Depot in a 6-inch pot for $9.99. My first foray into tropical gardening and I'm so excited. I've got two citrus trees (improved Meyer and calamondin) so I have some experience with these warmer weather plants.

What's the recommended soil mixture for the jasmine? And what about fertilizing schedule? I'm in zone 6, New Jersey (New Joysee for the natives ;-)

I have several jasmines including Grand Duke, Maid of Orleans and Belle of India. I use Fafard potting mix and don't add anything to it. I keep them in bright indirect light, allow the plants to dry between waterings and fertilize infrequently, maybe every 6-8 weeks with a balanced fertilizer. I also use epsom salts and kelp extract. I have no idea if this is what's recommended but I've had my jasmines for years and they bloom beautifully. Good luck with your plant.

Tony as I read your posting, I run to Home Depot and Lowes in town to get Jasmine Sambac. None of them have it except Star Jasmine and Vine Jasmine. Were they labeled "Jasmine Sambac" or labeled different names? Thanks.

Karyn, are your Jasmines up for trade? (lol)
