I had a friend who had a potted plant that he kept in his plant collection. I recognized it immediately as a mango and told him, he refused to believe it. I told him he could grow it as a foliage plant but that it would never bloom and fruit as a containerized plant in the north (summered outdoors). Well, he finally was convinced it was a mango when it fruited for him.--I would not specifically grow it expecting it to flower and fruit, but apparently they do even when relatively small. You will need to put it outdoors, in the sunniest and hottest position you have and protect from frost once the heating season begins. No, you don't need a male and a female mango for fruiting.
