I'm growing a strelitzia in a container in a sunny spot on my patio. It's sent up several blooms this summer, but I'm puzzled about its growth habit. When I purchased the plant it had one "trunk" where all the leaves originated from. However, the main trunk has divided into two separate growth leads right in the center of the plant. Instead of sending up one leaf it sent up two that are growing in the same direction. The next set of leaves is coming up as a pair and is headed in the opposite direction. Is this normal? I thought that the plant multiplied by sending up pups at the base of the mother plant.
