germinated mango plant-going to die

Posted by strawberrygirl23 texas (My Page) on

The mango pit that I planted has sprouted. I took the seed out of the pit, and have replanted it for about a month. I was so excited to have it continue growing, until one day i found that some bug or animal bit the stem and nearly severed the leaves from the rest of the plant. Its still surviving after two weeks, but the leaves are slowly dying. Is there any way to stimulate new auxillary bud growth/new leaves on the rest of the plant that isn't wilting?

I think it is a blessing in disguise. Planting fruit trees that are not grafted is a large loss of time, money, and valuable real estate. You will be waiting for fruit that will never come. There are some types of fruit that will produce from seed but mango does require grafting. You may get some fruit but it will be different than the fruit you ate. And likely not tasty. Go buy a proven hybrid. There are many.
