Heliconias - newbie question

I have never had Heliconias in the garden before - didn't have the climate. We have a large, tall clump in our new garden with about 50 stems. They are really spectacular but now, in the middle of our dry season, many of the stems that flowered last season are falling over. Should I cut these off near the base - there is new growth appearing already - or I should I wait till it rains again?
