Depends on the conditions. It will not survive long inside a "plastic thing". It needs fresh air and good natural conditions. Remember these plants are from the tropics. They need warmth and good light but will burn if placed in direct sun. By the way if you don't like feeding them flies a small raisin will do. - Ian.

Venus fly traps will not live long in those small cup things you always see them sold in. You shouldn't even grow them in a terrarium but some folks do and it works for them. Setting it in the sun inside that cup probably cooked it.

They are also not a tropical plant as many people believe, They are indigenous to a very small region in north and south Carolina in the south-eastern US. VFT's require a resting or dormant period during the winter or they will often die after a few years. At the end of the growing season just cut off anything dead looking and place the plant in a cool spot where it won't grow for a couple of months. Don't let it dry out though. I've even heard of people putting them in their refrigerators for the winter, never tried it myself.

They will grow in full sun outdoor but if you've had them inside you need to acclimate them to full sun first.
