It's supposed to grow into a bush so unless you want it to be a standard, I would let it grow whichever way it wants. You could also prune it to help shape it a little and make it branch out.

I too, have a tiny one that I brought in July last year so I am learning about their growing habits still. I am not quite sure what you mean by "it's growing crooked!". Not just Gardenia but any plant will grow according to it's natural growth habit when an ideal growing environment is provided.

Does the plant receive light from above? Maybe it just wants to sprawl toward the light source.

Look at mine. It did absolutely nothing then just exploded within the last month or so.

I do need to reconsider it's culturing conditions!

Thanks for the posts. Ankraras, to be more specific, It's in a south-facing window, so gets sun from all angles as the sun moves throughout the day. It's trunk is straight from the soil line to about 2 inches up, then it turns and heads almost sideways. From the looks of your pics though, that seems pretty normal. I guess I'll let it do it's thing! Thanks! Happy growing!
