Heleconia overwintering

I have a 20 gallon pot full of Heleconia rostrata. The plants are about head high, but don't look like they will bloom before winter. I can throw up a make shift, clear plastic, temporary green house. Last winter they got down to about 35F - 40F and burned all the leaves off. I'll try to keep them warmer this winter. Does anyone know if insect pests are a major problem if I keep it warmer? Does anyone have experience over wintering these?
