Why do you think your walk out basement would be too warm?
It's a tropical, it can't be too warm for it.
It never goes dormant over the winter.
Put it in your walk out basement with as much sun as possible.
The entire plant will die at first sign of frost.
The cold air kills the entire plant, no garage, not in zone 6.
Good luck and you never know, it might bloom for you over the winter, just cut it down good and fertilize it a little over the winter.

I'll put it in my basement then. The link I read said to keep them between 50 and 60 degrees in the winter so I was afraid it would be too warm in any part of my house. I usually keep the thermostat at 68 during the day in the winter. My kids turn it up to 70 when I'm not looking. : )
