Well, it looks like this is more of a mystery than first thought.

I had expected that somehow my existing La Jolla Boogie spawned the Boogie that was growing inside the climbing rose, but no ... the La Jolla Boogie is a Vibrant Magenta color and the newcomer is more indigo or purple colored.

I'm perplexed. I only have La Jolla and Raspberry Ice. Where did this newcomer originate from?

OK. Mystery Solved.

Before I settled in here in BKF, the person or persons who were here before me must have planted Boogies which must have appeared to have died. Then they planted climbing roses right where the Boogies had been. And in the 3.5 years since I settled in, I have not noticed them, until now. They have remained dormant for nearly 4 years or more.

Here's a pic of an old Boogie stump that appears dead ...

You can just make it out to the right of and next to the climbing rose leaves and stems which are alive.

And here's a live Boogie, one of two live ones I've discovered growing in amongst the climing roses ...

Do you see the twisted old stump at the base of the emerging new vine-like stems of this Boogie?

Amazing! What a testament to the resiliancy of this plant!

It has survived two or three unwatered blazing summers and last January's hard freeze. I totally ignored watering those rose bushes untill this past Spring, because up till then ... I wasn't into gardening.

Wow!

I think the species is Royal Purple.
