Need Help With Bird Of Paradise Please

| My birds of paradise (I am not absolutely sure this is a bop b/c I was given this plant by a family member) is in need of desperate help! I used a fertilizer on it which obviously done more harm than good. The roots are very strong but all my stems are starting to rot without leaves on them. I keep trimming but the brown keeps growing and I am afraid that I will have no stems left therefore there will never be new growth again. I have one new leaf but it is really short and stunted and hasn't opened fully even though its been a long time. I already rinsed the roots really good and potted with new dirt.
PLEASE give me advice.

Def. not too late to save it. U should mix some sand in that dirt because you look to have a lot of only soil. but anyway you man have damaged roots from transplanting it and kind of shocked it. and mostly how often do you water it? it may be over watered. another thing is where is it located? how much sun... here is a pic. of mine yours can look like this also they are slower than bananas in putting out leaves. |

| Nice greeeen plant you have. Mine looks terrible right now. I water maybe once a week and have it in the shade trying to recover from the fertilizer burn. Before that it was in full sun. So can you tell if my plant is the bop or banana plant? Also while repotting it I added in lots of perilite. So should I just keep following the brown stems and trimming? How about using a spray bottle of water should I and at what time of the day, how often? |
