Transplanting Hala (pandanus)

I was wondering if anyone had any experience transplanting a Pandanus by separating and planting the arial roots? There is a big variegated Hala in Hilo that I want to try taking a cluster of arial roots that contains a large leaf "head" and then I want to plant the tips of the arial roots. Hopefully they will sprout from the bottom of the arial roots (as they usually root into the earth this way in nature.) this way I can start with a larger tree than starting with a small one from a pot. Any tips or experience anyone?
