How to identify Pitaya (Dragon Fruit) cactus

A customer of mine has growing in her back yard a HUGE growth of what appears to be the Pitaya cactus. I have small potted versions at my house and they look nearly identical to the cactus in her back yard. She didnt plant it originally so she's not sure what it is, but she did mention that she does not remember ever seeing it flower.

Now, this thing is growing wild, up a huge oak tree, and is monsterous. Easily several hundred pounds total weight. And she has offered to allow me to take as many cuttings as I want. My question is, however, is there any way to know if this plant is a fruiting variety of the species or if Im just going to get a plant for plants sake?

On a side note, is there such a thing as too big of a cutting when it comes to plants like this? Can I start a 6 ft solid piece as a new plant or do they have to be smaller in order to set new roots?

Thanks in advance. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
