If you like/prefer growing things from seed, then that's great. However, jaboticaba is a terribly slow growing plant and it will be a good 7+ years before you ever see a bloom.

I would suggest finding a good sized plant. Please be cautious with the mail order company that may have this plant. There is a relative of jaboticaba that is being sold from a few places as jaboticaba. The blooms/fruits nothing like a true jab. Hop over to the Tropical Fruit forum and post your questions there. I know that Lycheeluva and Stressbaby received these bogus plants. Good luck!

Hi thanks for answering, I don't mind growing this tree from seed, of course I much rather adquire the tree itself. As of today I have 2 possible sources, nothing for sure but I will keep trying. I found a source by the border(south) I am going to try and see. I have a couple of friends looking into this tree in Pearland, so wish me luck. Marcie

You can buy Jaboticaba fruit in a few supermarkets, though I only saw it once in USA. It has a hard stone which will germinate provided it has not been subjected to severe cold. I agree about it being slow however.

I've read good reports on them so far. They're site shows a 3 gal and 7 gal plants available. If you can afford the price of plant and shipping, the 7 gal would be the way to go due to the long juvenile period of this particular plant.

they have some really hard to find seeds, I odered once from them, "Passiflora macrophylla" and received the seeds quickly, and have 4 healthy plants now.
