I have 3 of these,and I had to grow them as a under dappled shade,for Kansas sun fried the leaves,back in Early may,when I brought them out of the greenhouse.
Took a couple weeks to get them use to the sun,brought them out and put under my bamboo,and gradually gave them more sun,but the leaf edges continued to fry.
These are a very slow grower,maybe 3 or 4 leaves from May to October,lots of water,in the heat of the day,to keep the leaves from dehydration.

Thanks for the reply, dbrya1. Would you consider this plant to be a good choice for a palmlike plant in zone 6? I'm in zone 5 and think it might be worth a try...that growth rate is better (faster) than alot of true palms I know. What kind of height does a plant put on in a season? Are those 3 or 4 leaves low to the ground or more upright? If it gets to be 2 or 3 feet tall in a season I'll probably go ahead and try some as a "put it outside in the summer bring it inside in the winter" kind of thing.

Slow, slower than palms, certainly out here.
