| I did a search of threads on Mandevilla in this forum and didn't see this addressed, so:
I was given a bloom Mandevilla late in the season for Zone 7 Virginia. I now have it in the house and plan to let it go dormant. Should I keep it as is or cut it back? Will it bloom on these existing vines next summer? |

| I've never heard of "cutting back to allow dormancy". Plants will become dormant if the temperature is low and/or they are suffering from drought. Pruning will not make any difference. Generally the right time to cut back is in the spring, if you have to, though with Dipladenias (Mandevillas) I find they need very little pruning. If I were you I'd leave it alone. The danger with autumn pruning is that you introduce disease when the plant is in a weakened state. Good luck. - Ian. |
