When in (zone 10) Louisiana do you live? Can you grow Plumerias outside without protection or the plant in the picture is potted?

I dont live in LA anymore. I recently moved away. When I lived there I was 14 mi from the gulf coast in a zone 9. I kept my all plumeria in pots and moved them in when it hit around 40's F. I know some people keep them in the ground there, year around near the coastal areas but they have to have very well draining soil like on a hill (because where I lived it literally *rained* dew every morning. Last winter there it got down to upper 20's twice. I kept alot of my potted tropicals (monstera,heliconias,bananas,allamanda etc.) in a screenhouse with a canvas top, which keeps off the frost and I could keep them drier. Even though it lightly froze a few times, I didn't lose any of them. The plummies and certain passiflora were the only 'spoiled' ones who got to come inside :P

Those are great pics and the Pink Spotted Hawkmoth is just beautiful! I love watching sphynx moths. They're as entertaining as hummingbirds. I only see them in the evenings, especially around my brugs. Thanks for sharing your wonderful photos.

Thanks, I did a search on the butterfly forum and they really have some awesome photos of hummingbird moths there!
I grow brugs and datura also, The sphinx moths like to lay their eggs on them and the caterpillars eat up the leaves. I usually let them and grow extra brugs to put the caterpillars on if I get too many on the 'good' brugs lol. When they mature into moths they do seem to like to visit the brug flowers. They prefer the ones that are nodding compared to the flowers that hang straight down. This year I only grew the double purple datura and the cats seemed to like those ok but moths didnt seem to care about the flowers. I am going to get some of the plain white datura (metaloids sp.?) because they are supposed to really attract the moths.
