Cordyline Critter Damage- HELP!

loreleie

Last year, I planted 2 Cordyline australis, small tree size, like 4-5 ft tall and they have been doing very well- until this past weekend when one fell over. I'm pretty sure it was a gopher that hacked away at the roots & root ball. I called the nursery (Flora Grubb) where purchased & the advice was to just put it in a pot with cactus mix since they dont like any fertilizers or manures. And water twice/week, NO B1 or anything else.

Just wondered if anyone has experienced this & successfully managed to save the plant.
