California fruiting papaya

Here's some photo's I took today of my Florida Jack papaya. It supposedly produces relatively sweet fruit even though they have to go through our cool winters here in southern CA.

I have tried growing about ten other varieties of papaya and the result is always the same. Great looking tree, beautiful fruit and the blandest, tasteless fruit you could imagine. YUK!

Maybe I'm spoiled from eating papayas in Hawaii, but the papaya fruit I've grown here has really been disappointing.

Hope Florida Jack is better! This variety is a little unusual. It has a single female flower surrounded by males on the tip of each flowering branch. It looks like a male plant with the long branches, but its not.
