If you'd like to see our garden....

The flowering tree, which is the main feature, is a Flamboyant Tree or Royal Poinciana (Delonix regia). I've seen better specimens, but our soil is very thin and poor. In the shade (it is late afternoon) is a large Heliconia bihai, just beginning to flower. The tall tree to the left, still a youngster, is an Indian clove (Syzygium aromaticum). The whole tree, especially the bark, has a clove scent, though we haven't had any flowers or cloves yet. Next to it with glossy leaves is an avocado, which produces pounds of fruit with regularity. The pine is the Brazilian pine (Araucaria brasiliensis). There are several types of palm, both the tall and the clump forming type. In this photo mainly the former. If you think you can identify any we'd love to hear. The fruit is edible if stony, but very popular with the birds. The strange little building is a former aviary. We do not keep birds. The forest behind is a nature reserve which has S American racoons, several kinds of parakeets, toucans, hawks and many other birds. there are various mammals including marmosets and, seasonally, howler monkeys. Most of these visit the garden on occasion.
