Shivas...congrats with the plants. I would suggest you move on over to the Tropical Fruit forum soon. You mentioned a Carrie. What was the other mango and avocado varieties?

My opinion is the containers are much too large for your plants. You should only go up in size 1 maybe 2 sizes at most from the one the plant was previously in. Just be careful with the watering...especially during winter.

Looks like you have a nice spot in front of those windows. You can see how it goes with the windows and grow lights you have. If you want good growth and fruit development, you will probably need to go much stronger with the artificial lights...moving up to higher watt metal halides. First see if you are satisfied with your current setup before sinking more money into this.

The other mango and avocado are seedlings I got from a friend who grew them from seeds. Both were from fruits from walmart.

I got the largest pot I could find. I will re-pot in the spring to a smaller one. In the meantime let me see how it grows indoors. I agree with you, I should probably wait this winter and see how the plants react to my current setup before spending anymore money.

I wouldn't keep transplanting it. Just leave it be for now and see how it does. If you want to try your hand at grafting the avocado and mango in the spring, that's what I would do with the seedling. Would be years and years waiting for fruit and may turn out to be crappy. Plus seedling avocado trees will get huge.

Thanks for the tip. I had not considered grafting. Will do some more reading on grafting and may try it this spring.

Read up good. Maybe find someone with some other type of citrus and graft onto your orange for practice. I can send you some scions of avocado and mango once the plants are back outside. J
