Much to my surprise, I found a miniature pineapple plant at Wal-mart a couple of months ago. The plant had already fruited and the fruit was beginning to rot. I figured I could buy it and grow another from the top of the fruit. Well, somehow I managed to rot the top rather than root it (I've been successful with regular pineapples from the grocery store?).

Anyway, I read somewhere that pineapples plants will grow smaller plants, pups, much like banana plants do, after they fruit. The original plant is still going strong in my greenhouse. Is there any way to encourage it to grow some pups? How long should that take?
