New growth is always good! You are doing something right. Were you transplanting it that you have the roots showing?

I noticed this year my caimito has many less fruit on it than in the last few years. I don't know why... we had a VERY wet 2009, maybe that is the cause?

I was transplanting the Caimito and the first thing I noticed was the color of the roots. There had been a post a while back about the Vitamin B-1. I had bought it at a tropical nursery in Erie PA. The owner had recommended it over Superthrive because it was a few dollars cheaper. Anyways the previous post about this had suggested that maybe the B-1 would be of no benefit to me because I was using it on potted fruit trees and not planted in the ground trees. Well I think that assumption was false. The picture shows the orange roots and all the new root growth that is a yellowish white. I know it helped my trees growth. I noticed heavier leaf production about a week and a half after using it. As far as your water question goes, I really cannot comment. I know they grow all over P.R. so I would think that the rain being heavy wouldn't hurt as long as the soil could drain. I know my tree is still quite small and I will never let it grow huge because of the space issue but I would like to see some flowers. I don't care if I have to pick off the small fruit, I just want to know if it will bloom or not. I am sure someon here can help you more with the water issue.
