what to do with my pommegranates during winter

I have a couple of pommegrante plants in containers that are only borderline hardy for NY. So i put them in containers. as in previous years, the plants shed their leaves when the weather turned cold and at that point, i brought them in to my garage, though i put them in the unlit and unheated section of the garage. still a little light and heat reaches that part of the garage, and now one of the pommegranate trees looks like its starting to leaf out. should i move it into the heated and lit section of the garage? do pommegrantes need a period of dormancy?

I'm not sure if they "need" it as much as they have a period of it. If I recall, the cold is still expected to show up so you may want to keep them indoors.
